What kind of trees are these?

Hi Stephen,

These trees are Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), also called Scots pine, an introduced species in North America from Europe. It was planted throughout the region for pulp and erosion control and today are primarily planted for the Christmas tree industry. Their orange bark is a good identification characteristic for this species. When in an open area they will grow with the curvy nature you see here. When planted close togehter they will have straight trunks.

Thanks for the question!
