Red Panda Exhibit
The front paw of the Red Panda are equipped with a 'false thumb,' that is really an extension of the wrist bone to assist in holding bamboo and climbing trees like the Giant Panda.
Red pandas are excellent tree climbers; most active at dawn, dusk and at night foraging for food.
Red pandas were first discovered in 1821.

Red Panda cubs stay with their mother until the next breeding season starts.
This large outdoor exhibit currently holds a breeding pair of red pandas of the subspecies
Ailurus fulgens fulgens
. The two have been producing offspring yearly since 2007.
