Species/Topic: Spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata)
Abstract: The spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata) is a species threatened in Ohio and protected in the majority of its range. Turtles are indicators of ecosystem health and provide insight into local wetland function. Previous Clemmys guttata studies emphasize declining populations, the need for more information on the protection and management of this species and their habitat. The proposed project will provide essential data aboutClemmys guttata year round activities, including winter months, which are not often studied. To do this I will conduct a mark recapture study utilizing radio telemetry and collect individual and habitat specific data. My results will increase the knowledge of Clemmys guttata ecology and improve management for conserving this rare species.
